While at the Stock Show, plan to stop by the CSU exhibit booth, located on the third floor of the Hall of Education, for information on academic programs, giveaways and more. The booth will be staffed during the entire 16-day run of the Stock Show. Among the exhibitors: Colorado State Forest Service, Extension, College of Agricultural Sciences, CSU Seedstock Merchandising Team, Online Plus, Admissions, 4-H, Alumni, External Relations, University Advancement and the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences.
CSU’s Ag Adventure, located next to the CSU booth, is an interactive exhibit in conjunction with several Colorado commodity groups that will help teach children about where their food comes from. The exhibit includes information from the Colorado Department of Agriculture, Colorado Farm Bureau and commodity groups such as beef, dairy, eggs, potatoes, corn, wheat and honey producers.
Guided tours are offered to about 20,000 school-aged children from the Denver metro area during the weekdays and other busy times, but self-guided tours are also available during off-hours. In all, more than 70,000 people visited Ag Adventure last year.
The CSU Seedstock Merchandising Team, a select group of 8 undergraduate students, will be competing at the National Western Stock Show with 3 pens of cattle. The students selected these cattle from the 2012-born calf crop produced at CSU’s Agricultural Research, Development, and Education Center in Fort Collins. Since selecting them this fall, the team has been developing and preparing these cattle for the upcoming show.
The team will have cattle at the Stock Show from January 12-19 (CSU day at the Stock Show). During that time, students will host a CSU booth in "the yards” and in addition to displaying their show cattle they will be promoting the upcoming CSU bull sale at ARDEC, which will be held on March 23, 2013 – the 37th annual sale. Students will show their pens of Hereford cattle on Friday, Jan. 18. On Jan. 17, the Seedstock Team will be hosting a complimentary lunch for CSU buyers, alumni, and friends at the yard pen next to the Livestock Auction Arena. More information will be available about this event on the team’s website in the coming weeks.
