Managing stress during finals

It's that time of the semester. Papers and projects are due, finals week is near, and balancing school with other responsibilities can sometimes be too much to handle. That is why the CSU Health Network provides multiple resources and services for stressed-out students.

Variety of resources

The CSU Health Network offers many ways for students to learn about stress management.

A little stressed out and short on time? Their website offers guides, podcasts and more to help you de-stress at home. Really stressed out and need someone to talk to? The CSU Health Network offers programs, workshops and private sessions for students in need.

De-stress online

The CSU Health Network website provides different types of stress management techniques. This includes, but is not limited to, printable handouts and guides, self-guided stress relief instruction, easy stress relievers (like breathing and imagery techniques), and simple yoga positions that can be used to calm your mind and body.

Another particularly interesting resource is the relaxation podcast feature. The podcasts provide guided relaxation exercises to help reduce stress. Skills taught in these podcasts include progressive muscle relaxation, nose breathing and body scan techniques.

De-stress at the CSU Health Network

For those who prefer face-to-face interaction or just feel like they need guidance on a more personal level, the Stress Management Program offers programs, work shops and private sessions to help students manage stress.

SMP workshops: These workshops are one-time training sessions for students who have limited stress-management experience and want additional instruction on problem solving and stress relief techniques. Specific information on sessions that are currently offered can be found on the CSU Health Network website in the group counseling section.

There are two upcoming workshops:

  • Sleep management workshop: May 3, 2-4 p.m.
  • Stress management workshop: May 5, 3-5 p.m.

SMP sessions: These private sessions are for students who have specific anxiety problems, have limited experience in stress management and may not be comfortable learning about stress reducing techniques in a group setting. Individual sessions can be scheduled by calling the counseling office at (970) 491-6053.

Ask the Stress-Pert: The Wellness Zone @ LSC has a stress expert (the Stress-Pert) come in weekly to provide free consultations for students.

The Stress-Pert will be in:

  • Monday, May 3 from 12-3 p.m.
  • Tuesday, May 4 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
  • Friday, May 7 from 12-2 p.m.
