Karen has been working in the Chemistry Department at CSU for almost three years. She and her family moved to the area after her husband retired from the military. Karen has one son who just finished his first year at CSU. He's a Computer Engineering major; she has another son who she hopes will attend once he graduates from high school.
Sheri Hofeling from the Department of Math and Statistics nominated Karen for an Everyday Hero Award because of her positive attitude and her willingness to step up when needed.
“When the Accounting Supervisor resigned on short notice, Karen stepped into the position while still performing her position duties," Sheri says. "She always has a smile on her face, a good attitude and is hard working." Sheri continues, “She has been patiently waiting for her position to be filled so she can focus on the new duties. This work load is extremely large and no one could be expected to maintain the two positions, but she has never lost her positive attitude and warming smile.”
When Karen isn't working, she enjoys bicycling, hiking and attending events at the Lincoln Center. When asked what she wanted fellow employees to know about herself, Karen said she's very happy to be working at CSU, she loves her co-workers and thinks they are a great team. Karen also takes great pride in being an indirect part of the research that's taking place at CSU.
Karen said she was excited when she found out she was nominated for the Everyday Hero award. A letter was sent to the department about Karen’s award, and she has received very nice feedback from her co-workers.
Do you have a colleague who deserves recognition, a co-worker who makes the workplace better or someone who just made your day?
Everyday Hero is a special recognition program sponsored by the Classified Personnel Council for recognizing outstanding employees within the CSU community.
All Colorado State University state classified staff, administrative professionals, and faculty members are eligible to receive the award.
