ING selected as PERA's new 401(k) and 457 plan administrator

August 23, 2011

To academic faculty, administrative professionals and classified staff

In 2010, PERA issued a national Request for Proposal (RFP) to all retirement vendors to solicit a new retirement plan administrator for the voluntary tax deferred investment plans (PERA 401(k) and 457). ING has been selected as the new administrator, which necessitates several important changes for plan participants to learn about. Note: The administration of PERA’s Defined Benefit Plan remains with PERA.

PERA will be visiting our campus on Monday, Aug. 29, in LSC Room 230 from 1-2 p.m. to communicate the changes associated with the selection of a new 401(k)/457 plan administrator.

If you are a current PERA 401(k) or 457 plan participant or an employee interested in beginning to make voluntary tax deferred contributions to one of these plans, it may benefit you to attend this informational session. The meeting will provide an opportunity to learn about the new investment funds available as well as the process associated with moving existing plan participant accounts to ING.

The session will include the following highlights:

  • Administrator Transition - the transition to ING will occur on October 1, 2011
  • Blackout Period - the blackout period is scheduled to take place at the end of September. During the blackout period, participants may not make contributions, withdrawals, loans, fund transfers or investment election changes.
  • Administrative Fees - ING offers comprehensive services at a competitive administrative cost
  •  Expanded Investment Selection - Enhanced portfolio diversification, improved cost structure, index-based target date funds, professional account management (for additional fee), self-directed brokerage window, account access through www.copera.org for all accounts

Additionally, PERA’s Field Education Representatives provide meetings located offsite throughout Colorado that you may find convenient to attend based upon your location or schedule.  The presentation is identical to the employer sponsored meetings. The listing of informational sessions may be found on PERA’s website
