The Classified Personnel Council's latest Everyday Hero is Jon Peterson, a materials handler in Facilities. Jon always has a smile and a kind word for everyone he meets.
Jon Peterson is a campus customer service superstar.
Jon was nominated by Sheela Backen in Facilities Management. Here is what Sheela had to say about Jon:
“It is my pleasure to nominate Jonathan (Jon) Peterson for the Classified Personnel Council Everyday Hero Award. Jon is very deserving of this award. Jon is always very positive and has a smile and a kind word for everyone he meets. Jon works in the Facilities Management Transportation Parts room. He is constantly working with people that are upset about their vehicles being down and waiting on parts that he has ordered.
"Jon always treats everyone with dignity and respect. He makes jokes to lighten the mood and most people walk away laughing or smiling. Jon has always used good customer service skills and makes everyone feel that their problem is important to him and leaves them feeling like he truly cares about how they feel. Jon always has a positive attitude even when dealing with difficult people. Jon has all of the qualities that are being looked for in a person receiving this award.”
Jon has worked in the Facilities Transportation Parts room for almost 10 years. He began his career with CSU in the Food Service department where he worked in the Durrell Center for about 3 months. Jon has been in the auto parts business since he was 18 years old. He has a passion and love for cars.
Jon and Deb Parker have a “combined” family of six kids. Deb works in the Housing and Dining Services Operation Management department. Jon met Deb when they both worked in the Durrell Center. Deb and their children are a very important part of his life.
Jon has volunteered his time to help with events on campus - Fall Ram Welcome; School is Cool; and, most recently, the 55th annual Colorado Science & Engineering Fair. Not surprisingly, his hobby is cars. He is restoring a 1968 Dodge Charger and a 1961 Dodge pickup. He recently took his prized possession, a 1969 Dodge Charger, to show off at the Community Car Show sponsored by College of Engineering.
When asked how he feels about being nominated for an Everyday Hero, Jon said “It is very special and nice to know fellow employees appreciate the job you do. On a daily basis, you don’t always feel appreciated.”
Sheela Backen (his nominator) is a co-worker and customer of Jon’s. He considers everyone he works with a customer and tries to help them with whatever they need.
Do you have a colleague who deserves recognition, a co-worker who makes the workplace better or someone who just “made your day?”
Everyday Hero is a special recognition program sponsored by the Classified Personnel Council for recognizing outstanding employees within the CSU community. All Colorado State University state classified staff, administrative professionals, and faculty members are eligible to receive the award.
