Live On emphasizes retention, academic success

With the new Laurel Village and fourth floor additions to Parmelee and Braiden halls, there will be 1,200 beds on campus earmarked for returning and transfer students next fall.

The Live On campaign, which encourages current students to return to the halls for Fall 2014, kicks off Feb. 3 and continues through March 31.

With growing off campus apartment competition offering amenities like pools, tanning beds, and pets, why should the CSU community encourage students to return to campus?  The 2012 National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) offers a couple of very compelling reasons.

1. Students who live on campus have higher GPAs than students who live off campus with the GPA gap more significant for sophomores, juniors, and seniors.

 

2. Students who live on campus their second year are more likely to be retained by CSU than students who live off campus.

Spaces for returning students

Designated spaces for returning and transfer students include:

  • Aspen Hall (floors 3-5 including quads and singles)
  • Parmelee 4th floor lofts (doubles and singles)
  • 2nd Year Experience at brand new Laurel Village
  • Designated wings in Summit and Corbett
  • Key Plus on Braiden 4th Floor
  • Transfer Community on Braiden 4th Floor and Allison
  • Block Housing (opportunity for 3 or more students to select adjacent or adjoining rooms to form micro-communities in most halls)

Incentive for faculty and staff

Faculty members, advisors, and mentors on campus can play an important role in helping students decide where to live next fall.  As a thank you, a $6.30 dining card (to be used as a meal in the dining centers or as RamCash) will be given to CSU staff members each time a student lists their name on the online application as influencing their decision to live on campus.
