Try some meditation

If you have not meditated before, we seek your participation in a free, educational research study entitled, "Effects of Meditation on Mindfulness in Daily Life." The study is open to CSU students, faculty, staff and the general public.

You'll attend 4 weekly training sessions of one hour each; meditate c. 30 minutes per day, 5 days per week for 3 weeks; report your meditation practice; and fill out a short questionnaire at the end of training and 2 months later. The instructor is professionally trained and experienced in teaching mindfulness meditation.

Help test a new method of cultivating "mindfulness"--the ability of the human mind to be aware and accepting of whatever is happening in the moment. You'll be eligible to enter a drawing for a popular book and set of guided meditation CDs by Jon Kabat-Zinn, PhD, of the University of Massachusetts Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care and Society.

To learn more and sign up, information sessions will be held Sept. 15 and Sept. 22 at 1:00 and 2:30 p.m. You will be randomly assigned one of three groups, which will meet Thursday afternoons on campus at either 1 or 2:30 p.m., beginning Sept. 29.

If you're interested, please contact Jay E. Valusek (a graduate student in the School of Education) at (303) 485-8793. Please share this invitation with anyone you know who may be interested, as long as they have no prior meditation experience.
