MAX construction: University Station under way

March 18, 2013

Construction on the city's MAX Bus Rapid Transit system on campus, called University Station, began on March 18 and will continue into early summer.

A rendering of University StationThe project impacts more than 50 parking spaces on Mason Street, between Old Main and University Avenue.  One hundred seventy five meter and Z spaces in the west portion of lot No. 440, north of Jack Christensen Field, also have been removed to make way for MAX. Commuters who usually park in those areas can park in lot No. 575, at the southeast corner of Pitkin Street and University Drive near the University Square building.

About station construction

During construction, a chain link fence will enclose the area where crews will excavate, lay the foundation and then add in the structural elements of the new station building.  Over several months, contractors will return to the station site to complete the finish work on the station including masonry, installation of art panels and wind screens, electronic components and landscaping.

This closure will allow crews to work quickly and minimize impacts over a short period of time.  For more information, visit fcgov.com/maxconstruction or call the MAX construction hotline, 970-416-2617.
