Choral conducting and teaching

The first annual CSU Summer Choral Conducting Institute, designed for public school conductors and educators, is a week-long program focused on the study and development of choral conducting technique and choral pedagogy.

All classes, reading sessions, and private coaching sessions will be held in the University Center for the Arts.

Class content

Institute participants will enjoy a rigorous schedule that includes classes on:

  • Style and interpretation
  • Gestural implications in scores
  • Pedagogical approaches to choral techniques
  • Choral reading sessions, and
  • The opportunity to conduct major choral/orchestral excerpts with the resident, professional instrumentalists and choir.

Participants will also have daily individual coaching sessions with both clinicians.

Master conductors as clinicians

Jo-Michael Scheibe, Ph.D., from University of Southern California and James Kim, Ph.D., from Colorado State will serve as the main clinicians for the week. This is an exciting opportunity for singers, conductors, and educators to experience the joy of making music together in a learning-rich environment.
