Liberal Arts presents faculty awards

Recipients honored at the College's Spring Faculty/Staff Meeting and Awards Celebration on Wednesday, March 27.

Ann Gill, Dean of the College of Liberal Arts, is pleased to announce the recipients of the College's 2012-2013 faculty awards. These awards acknowledge the accomplishments and efforts of the outstanding faculty and staff members within the College. The recipients were honored at the College’s Spring Faculty/Staff Meeting and Awards Celebration on Wednesday, March 27.

Faculty Development Award
Provides support for outstanding research and/or creative activity for 5 to 7 faculty members per year. This year's recipients are:

  • Sue Doe/Lisa Langstraat, English
  • Wesley Ferreira, Music, Theatre, Dance
  • Antero Garcia, English
  • Lynn Kwiatkowski, Anthropology
  • Michael Lundblad, English
  • Ernesto Sagas, Ethnic Studies

Outstanding Service Award
Honors a member of the College who has given extraordinary service to the university, profession, or community.

  • Leslie Stewart, Music, Theatre, Dance

Distinction in Outreach Award
Honors a member of the College who has made outstanding contributions linking CLA with communities outside the university.

  • Tobi Jacobi, English

Distinction in Advancement Award
Recognizes a member of the College who has made outstanding contributions to the fundraising efforts of CLA.

  • Linda “Linny” Frickman, Art
  • Jane Slusarski-Harris, Music, Theatre, Dance

Excellence in Teaching Awards
Recognizes one outstanding teacher in each of the following categories: Graduate Teaching Assistant, Special & Temporary Faculty, Untenured Tenure-track faculty, and Associate Professor.

  • Matthew Bradley, Graduate Teaching Assistant, English
  • Franziska “Frankie” Wilcox, Special & Temporary Faculty, Foreign Languages and Literatures
  • Roe Bubar, Tenure Track Faculty, Ethnic Studies
  • Susan Opp, Tenure Track Faculty, Political Science
  • Leif Sorensen, Tenure Track Faculty, English

John N. Stern Distinguished Professor Award
Honors faculty who have demonstrated exemplary accomplishments in all aspects of their professional responsibilities over an extended period of time.

  • William B. Davis, Music, Theatre, Dance

Dean Gill also recognized the College’s 2012-13 retiring faculty and staff, which includes the following individuals:

  • Lynne Barnes, Foreign Languages and Literatures, 26 years of service
  • Pattie Cowell, English/INTO, 36 years
  • Blane Harding, College of Liberal Arts, 21 years
  • Richard Kitchener, Philosophy, 43 years
  • Violet Marquart, Political Science, 17 years
  • David Vest, Communication Studies, 23 years
