State-classified performance incentive

May 8, 2012

A message from the executive director of HR on the recently announced one-time performance incentives coming up in July 2012 paychecks.

Dear state-classified employees:

Recently, CSU President Tony Frank formally announced the good news we have been waiting to share with you. As you know, the state of Colorado is not able to provide state-classified pay increases this year. Just the same, the university understands the impact that going years without a pay increase has had on our classified staff and wants to recognize the instrumental work performed by CSU's classified staff during a time of historical budget woes these past several years.

For that reason, our state-classified employees will be eligible to receive a one-time performance incentive this year, based on the final evaluation rating for the 2011-2012 performance cycle that ended March 31. This award will be provided as a single lump sum in July paychecks (details provided below).

All current regular state-classified staff, full and part time, receiving final evaluation ratings of Level 2, "Successful Performer," or Level 3, "Exceptional Performer," and who are employed as of July 1, 2012, will receive the award, which is equal to 3 percent of annual base salary.

Considering that our employees have gone without salary increases for several years, there is no distinction between the incentive received for Level 2 and Level 3 performance. Employees receiving a Level 1 rating of "Needs Improvement" are not eligible for the award.

One-time "lump sum" incentive payments for state-classified salaried and hourly staff will be included in July 2012 paychecks. The incentive is non-base building, meaning that it is provided just this once and will not increase your annual base salary. This additional increment will be taxed at your normal tax rate and subject to employer and employee PERA contributions.

We are excited to provide you with details of this benefit, which meet the state's requirements for incentive programs. If you would like more information regarding the criteria for this program, please contact our office at (970) 491-MyHR (6947).

As always, we appreciate your contributions to CSU and wish you a happy and enjoyable summer!

Sincerely,

Tony DeCrosta, Executive Director and Chief Human Resource Officer
