Stimulus means Pell grants for more Colo. students

March 28, 2009

About 3,500 more Colorado students will be eligible for Pell grants to go to college thanks to the economic stimulus package, according to the Department of Higher Education's estimates.

The federal government is changing the "Estimated Family Contribution" formula, extending the eligibility for people to get government grants to pay for college.

Under the new formula, families can contribute up to $46,017 toward college and the student will qualify for some help. The old rules capped eligibility when families could contribute up to $40,000 toward school.
