Spring Festival Gala

After a successful inaugural year in 2013, the Confucius Institute kicks off its second year at Colorado State University with an elaborate celebration of the Chinese New Year.

On Saturday, February 8, CSU welcomes performers from the Confucius Institute of Chinese Opera at Binghamton University for a performance at the University Center for the Arts.

Face changing, acrobatics

The 2014 Spring Festival Gala celebrates Chinese New Year, also known as Lunar New Year or Chinese Spring Festival.

Performances will feature:

  • traditional Chinese face changing – an ancient Chinese art where performers move to quick, dramatic music and wear vividly colored masks,
  • Beijing Opera, and
  • Chinese acrobatics.

CSU’s performance will be followed by a similar performance on Sunday, February 9 at Community College of Denver’s Confucius Institute.

Celebrating Chinese language, culture

The Confucius Institutes at Colorado State University, Binghamton University and Community College of Denver are all part of the worldwide Confucius Institute network of organizations promoting Chinese language and culture.

Bingham University’s Confucius Institute focuses on Chinese opera and music, while CSU’s specializes in supporting research on water and environmental sustainability. All three organizations offer courses on Chinese language and culture.

CSU's Confucius Institute

In its first year on campus, the Confucius Institute at Colorado State University (CICSU) reached more than 150 Chinese language learners through classes for all ages and skill levels.

Nearly 1,000 people participated in Chinese cultural events, and outreach into the community helped to establish multiple collaborations with schools, businesses and community organizations. This spring, CICSU has doubled its Chinese course offerings.
