Marketing students, Shantil Byrne and Christine Richardson turned in outstanding performances at the National Collegiate Sales competition. The event took place in Atlanta, Ga., March 4-7, 2011. Sixty-one universities were represented by 122 students at the competition.
Shantil Byrne received the top individual award given at the competition. “To date, one of my most life changing events has been winning the National Collegiate Sales Competition. Besides being a huge honor, it was an excellent opportunity to get real life sales experience, and the career opportunities that have come from winning the competition have been amazing,” said Byrne.
Christine Richardson finished first in her division in round one and advanced through to the quarterfinals. Richardson remembers her experience similarly stating, “I have undoubtedly grown professionally. Not only did this experience prepare us for the NCSC, but for the future as well."
Overall, Colorado State University placed second in the team standings among the competing universities. “In the months leading up to NCSC, Shantil and Christine worked countless hours to learn the NetSuite customer relationship product and master a wide array of advanced selling skills.
The amount of time they spent preparing for the competition was indeed impressive, but even more noteworthy is how well they worked together as teammates. As a result of their joint efforts, Shantil and Christine clearly demonstrated that they are in top tier of all professional sales students in the country.
I couldn’t be prouder of our team showing, and Shantil winning the overall individual competition is just icing on the cake,” said Colorado State Marketing Professor Tom Ingram.
The National Collegiate Sales Competition is the largest and oldest sales role-play competition in existence. Their goal is to enhance the practice and professionalism of the sales profession. Participating students are provided a venue for sharpening their sales skills in a highly competitive environment, while also networking with their peers and top professionals in the field.
Colorado State can be proud of the outstanding performance of its undergraduate students.
