Irena Danczik, MD, staff psychiatrist and director of Psychiatry Services at the CSU Health Network, was recently one of seven physicians nation-wide selected to attend a 12-month Addiction Psychiatry Residency Training Program at Yale University School of Medicine.
Ranked as the number one alcohol abuse specialty program in the nation by US News and World Report, the nationally recognized program provides advanced training in the evaluation, treatment, research and teaching of substance-related disorders.
"The faculty includes the best experts in the field," said Dr. Danczik, "I will study the most current findings in the theory of substance abuse and participate in research studies on treatment of alcohol, pain medication, cocaine and marijuana addiction."
Dr. Danczik will temporarily leave her position at CSU Health Network in July of this year and will return next summer. Meanwhile, another psychiatrist will be added to the medical staff to attend to Dr. Danczik’s patients’ needs during her absence and stay on staff after her return to help meet the mental health needs of the growing campus community.
"It's an honor to be accepted to this program," said Dr. Danczik, "I look forward to returning to CSU equipped with enhanced skills to use for evaluation, treatment and collaborative management of students with addiction disorders."
