Jane E. Norton, 91, former consumer sciences instructor, passed away Dec. 22

Jane E. Norton, 91, of Fort Collins passed away Dec. 22, 2009. Jane was born Nov. 17, 1918, to Dr. Theodore and Christine Lund in Minneapolis, Minn.

When she was five, her family moved to Brush, where she graduated from high school. Jane attended Colorado A & M, now CSU, and graduated in 1941 with a bachelor's specializing in home economics.

Consumer Sciences instructor at Colorado State

On Dec. 24, 1941, Jane married Robert Norton in Corpus Christi, Texas, where he was stationed as a flight instructor with the United States Navy. After World War II, they returned to Colorado; settling in Fort Collins. Jane worked as an instructor at CSU in the Consumer Sciences and Housing Department teaching students how to refinish furniture and make draperies. She was a long time member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Jane enjoyed gardening, knitting, and china painting.

Jane is survived by her husband of 68 years, Robert; sons, Robert (Kay) Norton, Jr. of Alaska, John (Roxanne) Norton of Loveland, and David (Jill) Norton of N.H.; nine grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren. Also surviving is sister, Ruth Hansen; and son-in-law, Willard Niesent. She was preceded in death by her parents; and daughter, Marilyn Niesent.

Memorial service Dec. 28

Memorial service 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 28 at Trinity Lutheran Church.
