Sport Clubs 2009 highlights

Colorado State University is the home to 28 different student-run Sport Clubs and embodies over 1,000 students. Here are the highlights for the Sport Club teams for 2009.

Alpine Ski Racing
The men's team placed second in the League for the season. The women's team had their highest participates this year. Both the men and women teams qualified for regionals - the men's team took home sixth place.
 
Baseball
The baseball team won their fifth NCBA World Series title in Fort Myers, Fla. They finished the season with an incredible record of 47-7. Pitcher Bobby Moller was named Most Valuable Player.

Bowling

USBC Silver Certified Coach Ron Bucker celebrates his twelfth year coaching the bowling team.

Cycling

The cycling team hosted the Collegiate Road Nationals in 2008 and will host it again in 2009.The team finished third in the country for 2008 and took second place during the team time trial.
 
Field Hockey
For the first time in five years, the field hockey team hosted a tournament in Fort Collins.

Ice Hockey
The Men's Ice Hockey team hosted the Sam Spady Charity Hockey game this past season. They played against CU at the Budweiser Event Center in front of over 5,000 fans. Te team took forth in the National ACHA DII Championships in Grand Rapids, Mich.

Brand new to the Sport Club scene, the Women's Ice Hockey team will begin their first competitive year in 2009.

In-line Hockey
Finishing with a 17-0 record for the regular season, the In-line Hockey team qualified for the national tournament.

Lacrosse

The team played against CU at Folsum Field in Boulder and hosted the Lindenwood at Invesco Field for the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse Showdown that over 6,000 fans attended.

In a tournament hosted by the University of Denver, the Women's Lacrosse team took first place.

Logging Sports
Adrian Flygt took second place i n the Collegiate Stihl Timbersports West Regional Conclave and will be hosting the 2010 Conclave that will be televised on ESPN.

Rodeo
The Rodeo team hosted the 58th Annual Skyline Stampede at the CSU's Equine Center.

Rugby
Ranked no. 2 for the season, the team placed in the top four teams of their region.

After going undefeated in the spring season, the Women's Rugby team place first in the collegiate level during the Wayne State Tournament.

Shotgun Sports
The varsity Shotgun team competed in a variety of competitions in Wyoming. The team took third in the American and the International competitions. They placed fourth overall at the ACUI Collegiate Championships.

Snowboarding
The snowboarding team had members winning spots on the podium in all the competitions they participated in.

Soccer
The team competed in the San Diego Tournament in San Diego, Cali., and finished second in the nation at the NIRSA National Championship Tournament in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

Women's Soccer is comprised of two teams - the Green and the Gold. This year, both teams participated in the NIRSA National Championship Tournament in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

Synchronized Skating
One of the newer teams added to CSU's Sport Clubs, Synchronized Skating will be participating in their first competitive year in 2009.

Triathlon
In the USA Nationals in Lubbock, Texas, the team took second in their region and out of 60 total teams, CSU took 11th place. CSU Triathlon's highest male finished first in nations during the Graduate Student Division.

Men's Ultimate
The team was invited to tournaments in Kansas and Missouri.

After finishing third in the High Tide Tournament in Jekyll Island, Ga., the Women's Ultimate team advanced to the Regional Tournament as the no. 4 seed.

Volleyball
This year, the Volleyball team hosted a tournament that hosted 15 teams from around the nation. The team also participated in the NIRSA National Tournament in St, Louis, Mo. Volleyball took first place in the Cupid Shuffle in Columbia, Mo. and first in the region in the Mountain West Volleyball Conference Championships, hosted by CSU.

Men's Water Polo
A regional tournament was hosted by the Men's Water Polo team.

Women's Water Polo placed fifth in the Western Regional Tournament.
