Classical saxophone masterpieces by French composers -- that's what's in store for audiences when Peter Sommer, saxophone, and Joel Bacon, piano, team up for a performance in the Organ Recital Hall on Monday, Nov. 30.
Peter Sommer, CSU music faculty and director of Jazz Bands. JazzReview.com recently gave Sommer a fantastic review for his contributions to the new jazz album, Streamin'.
The Virtuoso Series Concerts continue with an inspirational performance of duets by Peter Sommer, saxophone, and Joel Bacon, piano, on Monday, November 30, 7:30 p.m. in the Organ Recital Hall at the University Center for the Arts, 1400 Remington Street.
The concert is followed by a "Meet the Artist" reception where patrons are invited to meet the musicians, ask questions about the music and the performance, and mingle with other patrons, while enjoying dessert breads, coffee and tea generously provided by Great Harvest Bread Co., Mugs Coffee Lounge and Whole Foods Market.

The popular duo of CSU faculty Peter Sommer, Saxophone, and Joel Bacon, Piano, bring you an evening of classical saxophone masterpieces by French composers, including Alfred Desenclos, Paule Maurice and Ida Gotkovsky.
In regards to the cohesion of the musical duo, Sommer states that, “Dr. Bacon and I have a great time creating concerts together, from selecting the music through the performance in the hall, and I would like to think that the joy in performance is shared by the audience as well.”
Joel Bacon, CSU music faculty and Stewart and Sheron Golden Chair of Organ and Liturgical Studies, holds the first endowed chair in the College of Liberal Arts.
Peter Sommer, saxophonist and composer, is in demand as a performer, clinician and recording artist throughout the state of Colorado.
He is Assistant Professor of Jazz Studies and Saxophone at Colorado State University, where he directs Jazz Ensemble I and the CSU Jazz Combo program, in addition to teaching courses in Jazz Improvisation and Jazz Pedagogy.
Joel Bacon currently holds the newly established Stewart and Sheron Golden Chair in Organ and Liturgical Studies, the first endowed chair in the College of Liberal Arts.
Before coming to CSU, he was assistant organist of St. Thomas Lutheran Church, Munich-Grünwald, and served as frequent guest organist at the former Hapsburg imperial church, St. Augustine, Vienna.
