Muses/influences behind the composers

"Under the Influence: Masterworks for Wind Band," presents the Symphonic Band and the Wind Ensemble in concert with special guest conductor Gary Hill, Ph.D.

Each piece on the program displays an outside influence on the composer – be it other composers, styles, or people with which the work is associated.

Meditation inspires composition

The Symphonic Band’s performance will include David Maslanka’s Golden Light, inspired by the composer’s meditation through which he was transported to coastal Africa and took part in communal music making.

The Wind Ensemble, guest conducted by Dr. Gary Hill, will tackle John Mackey’s finest work to date: The Frozen Cathedral.
