Long-time CSU supporter Gene Gilfoyle's memorial service Nov. 17

November 16, 2010

Long-time CSU supporter Eugene Robert Gilfoyle, 78, husband of former provost Ellie Gilfoyle, passed away peacefully Nov. 9, 2010, in his Loveland home. Gene was born in St. Louis, Mo. Aug. 21, 1932.

Husband of former provost, OT faculty member

Gene met his wife Ellie of 52 years in Denver and they married at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception on Feb. 15, 1958. Together they enjoyed all Colorado has to offer including camping, skiing, hiking, handball, tennis, rewarding careers in finance, occupational therapy and higher education, as well as a vibrant social life. Family and innumerable friends were the epicenter of Gene and Ellie's life together.

Dedicated member of CSU community

Gene was a dedicated member of the CSU community for many years, both before and after his wife became the University’s first woman provost in 1991. Even in retirement, the Gilfoyles remained fixtures at CSU athletics events and other activities.

Their son Sean, his wife Alex, their children Cory and Madison Barna, Genevieve May, Sean William and Liam Robert were all bright lights in Gene's life. Gene's sister-in-law, Lyda McConnell, nephew Dale McConnell, niece Ann Himel, her husband Phil and their children Michael, Tyler and Catherine all share a lifetime of laughter and joyous memories of Gene. Gene's close family circle extends to his sister-in-law Bonnie Sauer and her children and their families as well as his Clausing nephews and nieces in Minnesota.
