Working at CSU

Lindsay Johnson-Athey an Everyday Hero

March 26, 2014

Lindsay Johnson-Athey, Housing and Dining Services Operations Management Commodity Buyer, has been named an Everyday Hero by the Classified Personnel Council.

Johnson-Athey  was nominated  for the award by Eric Gardner of Operations Management.

Johnson-Athey  has been employed at the University since May 1994 and has been at her current position for almost five years. She grew up in Fort Collins and, after graduating high school, started working at CSU in the custodial department while going to school at night. She has continued to work her way up to her current position. Johnson-Athey served on the Operations Management Recognition Committee from 2005 until 2011.

Gardner nominated Johnson-Athey  because of her special way of understanding how people learn.

“I started this position in Housing and Dining on January 2," Gardner wrote in his nomination.  "There were many new things to learn.  It was much different than Facilities where I moved from.  I knew the information systems well in Facilities.  Here in Operations Management it is a whole new world for me. At times I am a slow learner; Lindsay quickly recognized my learning methods and had the patience to stick with me till she was confident that I got it. Through her patience and understanding I feel that this has made the transition to this new position a smooth and positive experience for me. Thank you, Lindsay.”

Johnson-Athey said it is important to her that her coworkers know they can come to her for help, she tries to help in the best way she can to make others' jobs easier.

When asked what she thought about being nominated for the Everyday Hero Award, Johnson-Athey  said, “It is great to be recognized by a coworker. It makes you feel good. The Everyday Hero Award is a great project.”

When Johnson-Athey is not working she enjoys scrapbooking, quilting, stamping, walking and traveling to California.
