Sometimes a simple “thank you” is all people need.

The employees of the Office of the Vice President for Research have created a “Wall of Thanks” where members of the campus community can acknowledge their good works.

The website – at http://portal.research.colostate.edu/thanks - was created as part of Vice President Bill Farland’s efforts to improve the organization through more team building and communication strategies. The page also provides a way for people to donate to a fund for professional development, employee recognition or cross-training since funding in those areas has been eliminated with the tight budget.

In one instance, an off-campus organization that hosted Farland as a speaker donated to this fund.

“Recognition is important, especially in these tough budget times where people are being asked to do more with less,” Farland said. “We’ve found people really like hearing ‘thank you’ more than any other reward. We want to keep a good staff here and show them that they’re appreciated.”

The Vice President for Research office employs 110 people in the Animal Care Program, Infectious Disease Research Center, Lab Animal Resources, Proteomics and Metabolomics Facility, Research Integrity and Compliance Review Office, Research Services, and Sponsored Programs.
