The Colorado State University Marching Band will hold an open sign-up period for new members continuing through July 17. Membership is open to all CSU students.
In addition to musicians, the group also offers opportunities for Visual Ensemble members (color guard) and Golden Poms (CSU dance team). To sign-up as a new member, visit www.bands.colostate.edu/Marching and select the "join" menu for information.
Director of Bands J. Steven Moore says he expects the 2009 season to be the best ever for the CSU Marching Band. "There is already a terrific energy surrounding the students and staff for the upcoming season,” says Moore. CSU's Head Football Coach Steve Fairchild says he counts on that energy - it helps the Rams win games.
“When we traveled to Albuquerque for the New Mexico Bowl in 2008, I was really excited to see every member of our band proudly representing our university and our football team at both the pregame functions and the game itself. Our band is as much a part of our football program as the Rams horns on our helmets.”
“Players and coaches really do get excited when they hear and see our band and our student section supporting them at home games. That support truly makes a difference in the outcome of the game,” Fairchild says.
In March, the CSU Marching Band was recognized for innovation and excellence by the College Band Directors National Association as one of the top five collegiate marching bands in the nation. “This recognition has brought Colorado State University to the attention of band directors from around nation, who may not be aware of CSU or of the quality of our band and music program,” says Moore. The award is the first national recognition that the marching band has received in the history of the program.
The CSU marching band features musicians from nearly every major on campus who perform annually for approximately 200,000 Ram football fans each year. The band travels with the CSU football team on selected road trips, including post-season bowl games. The group has performed in such cities as Memphis, New Orleans, San Francisco, San Diego, and Albuquerque.
Visual Ensemble auditions are scheduled for Saturday, April 25. Please contact VE@csubands.com for more information. Tryouts for the Golden Poms will be held April 24-26. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org for more information. No audition is necessary for musicians.
