West Lake Street closure Sept. 28-Oct. 5

September 24, 2010

The Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad tracks on West Lake Street, just west of College Avenue, will be closed to all traffic for track repairs and improvements. The work is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, Sept. 28, and will continue through Tuesday, Oct. 5, weather permitting.

New railroad crossing signal and crossing arm

West Lake Street will be closed to through traffic from College Avenue to East Drive from Sept. 28 thru Oct. 5, in order to install a new signal and crossing arm at the railroad crossing at Lake Street.

This project will install fully automated railroad signals and gates, and replace the existing timber crossing material, track and ties.

North sidewalk will be extended

The sidewalk on the north side of Lake Street will be extended across the tracks, and repairs will be made to the adjacent asphalt roadway.

There will be no pedestrian access across the railroad tracks at the construction site. Pedestrians may walk through the student parking lot (Lot 575) off of Lake Street or down East Drive.

Project updates can also be found online at fcgov.com/fctrip.

Alternative vehicle routes

The entrance to the student parking lot (Lot 575) off of Lake Street will remain open.

  • Alternate routes #1: Prospect Road to Center Avenue to West Lake Street
  • Alternate route #2: Pitkin Street to East Drive to West Lake Street

Expect delays on Pitkin Street

Please note: Traffic may be slowed on Pitkin Street during this time due to sanitary sewer work under the railroad tracks just north of Pitkin. Expect delays if using this alternate route.
