CSU plays host to spooky Halloween festivities

October 25, 2012

Each year, Halloween brings out the creepy crawlies, ghouls, goblins, ghosts and mad scientists.

And at CSU, the fun is sometimes combined with education, including the annual organ concert- a unique activity only available during Halloween.

With a variety of departments on board, Colorado State is sure to fright with the Association for Student Activity Programming’s murder mystery, the chemistry club’s Mad Scientist Halloween Event and the Lory Student Center’s trick-or-treat activities.

 Activities include

CSU Clue
5:30 p.m. Oct. 26, Lory Student Center Cherokee Park Ballroom

The CSU community is invited to solve the crime at this year’s murder mystery, themed ‘Film Noir.” Much like the board game, players will be given clues from different actors and are challenged to solve the case. Prizes will be awarded to the first person or group to correctly accuse the murderer. Dinner will be served at the event.

Tickets are $5 for CSU students and are on sale now at the Lory Student Center iBox. For more information, contact the Association for Student Activity Programming at (970) 491-2727.

Chemistry Club’s Mad Scientist Halloween Event
6:45 - 9:45 p.m. Oct. 26, Chemistry Building

CSU students will engage local children and their parents in the magic of science, through various crafts, activities and games. The event is free and open to all community members. Donations are accepted to help pay for activities and chemicals.

Community members have a chance to create spooky crafts, visit live creepy crawlers in the Gillette Entomology Bug Zoo and participate in safe trick-or-treating this Halloween season. Face painting will be provided by Juiced on Imagination Expressive Therapy. Parents and children will learn and participate in fun, hands-on science activities including the opportunity to make their own slime.

LSC’s “Decades of Scares”: Trick-or-Treating in the LSC
3 p.m. - 5 p.m. Oct. 31, Lory Student Center

CSU and the Lory Student Center will host another year of safe, family-oriented trick-or-treating for the CSU and Fort Collins communities. From 3 to 5 p.m. Oct. 31, more than 20 Lory Student Center offices will offer candy to trick-or-treaters in the spirit of Halloween. The event is free and open to the public.

CSU’s 7th Annual Halloween Organ Concert
7 p.m., 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. Oct. 31, Organ Recital Hall, University Center for the Arts, 1400 Remington St.

Back for its seventh year, CSU’s wildly popular annual concert is performed on the world-renowned Casavant organ. The program features thematic organ music played by costumed performers including CSU Professor of Organ and Liturgical Studies Joel Bacon, organ students, and guest musicians.

Tickets are $7 for CSU students, $1 for youth under 17 and $12 for adults. Tickets are available at the UCA Ticket Office in the UCA Griffin Lobby, by phone at (970) 491-2787, or online.
