Engineering II building construction begins north of Green Hall. Completion date is planned for February 2013.Question:

Hi Cam! Do you know what happened to the most beautiful and stately Austrian pines that were, until recently, located just north of Green Hall? I know there is a new building going up in that area, but I don't think the trees were in the way.

Cam's answer:

I asked Fred Haberecht, assistant director at Facilities Management, and he told me the trees were removed as part of the new Engineering II construction project. While the removal of any trees is unfortunate, the pines were too close to the footprint of construction and so had to be taken out.

"A total of 36 trees will be planted as part of the project,” Fred says. “Twenty trees were relocated from the site to other campus locations. Unfortunately the Austrian pines were too large to move.”

The Engineering II building will be located north of Green Hall at the corner of Laurel Street and Meridian Avenue. Construction is expected to be completed in February 2013.
