Staffers working at CTV, College Avenue and in the Rocky Mountain Collegian advertising and news departments have recently won several more national and state awards, making the 2008-2009 school year one of the most celebrated in terms of honors being bestowed on students.
The Collegian ad staff won first place for Best Display Color Ad and the bronze for Best Classified Group Promotion at the College Newspaper Business and Advertising Managers national convention in Charlotte, N.C. in late March.
"This is wonderful," Collegian news adviser Holly Wolcott said of the victories. "In these ongoing, difficult times in journalism, it's great that such strong student work is continuing to be recognized."
Earlier this month in Salt Lake City, Student Media swept another pile of awards (the newspaper and magazine recently claimed national awards from the prestigious Columbia Scholastic Press Assoc.) at the Society of Professional Journalists’ Region 9 Mark of Excellence event at the University of Utah.
There were seven first places, including the CTV staff for its newscasts, the Rocky Mountain Student Media Corp. convergence team for its online feature reporting on AIDS awareness and College Avenue for Best Student Magazine. Complete list of winners
Also at CTV, it was recently announced that incoming station manager Mary Timby has been named the winner of the Colorado Broadcasters $2,000 scholarship.
