Ask Cam

Where oh where will the mighty Wurlitzer next play?

March 14, 2011

Question: I was lucky enough to hear Dr. Robert Cavarra play the Mighty Wurlitzer on several occasions and am sorry to hear about the farewell performances and the last chance to experience this magnificent organ. But what will become of the Mighty Wurlitzer?

Cam’s response: Many a good tune has been played on that mighty Wurlitzer! It’s been a treat to have such a special instrument here with us on campus.

Many of you have written me asking about the fate of the organ. As most of you know, the Lory Student Center Theatre is undergoing a renovation, making the space a fabulous place for events and entertainment.

I did some checking with my pals over at the LSC, and the answer to the question of where the Wurlitzer will play is:

 … Still undetermined.

I know this isn’t the greatest answer many of you would want to hear, but LSC staff is still seeking to find the best place befitting the Wurlitzer. Hopefully that place will be in a CSU building, but right now that promise can’t be made.

Right now, the Wurlitzer is being meticulously packed away and stored in a secure, climate-controlled location to preserve it.

Be sure to know that your intrepid mascot will be letting you know where the Mighty Wurlitzer will next call home.

You musical pal,

CAM
