Look who's outstanding!

November 20, 2013

Not only do the Music, Theatre and Dance administrative, marketing, and production staff help the department run like a well-oiled machine, they're also known for breaking into song and dance while doing it. They were recently recognized for their "efficiency and talent" with a catered breakfast hosted by the CSU Employee Appreciation Board.

On Friday, November 8, Colorado State University Employee Appreciation Board (CSUAB) members Colleen Timothy and Carol Carroll surprised the Music, Theatre & Dance Administrative, Marketing, and Production staff by hosting a catered breakfast at the University Center for the Arts.

Efficient and talented

Staff arrived anticipating a guest speaker; they were thrilled to find out they were actually being recognized by the EAB for their contributions to the department and our campus community.

The professional staff in Music, Theatre & Dance are unique in that their daily duties differ from many other units across campus. According to their nominator, Blythe LaGasse, an assistant professor in Music, Theatre & Dance, they continue to go above and beyond in completing day-to-day tasks:

  • administering academic classes,
  • instrument and locker rentals,
  • keycard access, and
  • managing technology requests.

Over one hundred performances each semester

With over 100 performances each semester, every staff member plays a vital role in the department and they handle daily situations with grace, humor, and kindness.

LaGasse provided a few examples that demonstrated their hard work and dedication to the department: “The administrative staff has performed musical numbers at our College of Liberal Arts' meetings. It is pretty amazing to have a staff that is efficient and talented.

"Several members of the staff are natural-born comedians and deliver the yearly rules and regulations while getting laughs.

"They help whenever they can – including making marketing materials with 48 hours turn-around time, tracking-down paperwork for distance students, and managing the details of major and minor events."

Recognizing CSU employees

The CSU Employee Appreciation Board (http://www.csuab.colostate.edu/index.html), originally formed in 1968, recognizes employees for their hard work and promotes community spirit among CSU faculty and staff through events such as breakfasts or luncheons. Each month, the Board hosts a prize drawing for all faculty and staff who submit an entry form, including a coveted reserved parking space for a full month.

The board meets monthly during the academic year to discuss and plan employee recognition events, as well as to help promote university events. One of the main objectives of the board is the monthly recognition of a group, entity or college.
