Labor Day holiday Sept. 6

University offices are closed on Monday, Sept. 6 for the Labor Day holiday. No classes will be held.

Celebrating the American worker

In the United States, the first Monday of September is recognized as a federal holiday that celebrates the American worker. President Grover Cleveland was president when Congress passed legislation which created a national U.S. labor holiday.

Symbolic end of summer

Traditionally, Labor Day is celebrated by most Americans as the symbolic end of the summer. Forms of celebration include picnics, barbecues, fireworks displays, water sports, and public art events.
