Employee among top finalists in sandwich showdown

November 8, 2012

CSU's own Kelly Mapes of the College of Business graduate program has been selected from more than 35,000 participants as a top 20 finalist in the Panera Bread Sandwich Showdown.

Mapes has been entering recipe competitions for years and is thrilled to be a Panera showdown finalist. Her sandwich creation is an Italian inspired Tuscan Bruschetta Panini with decadent ingredients such as tomato basil bread, salami, mozzarella cheese, baby spinach, basil, oven-roasted tomatoes, vinaigrette, balsamic mayo, olive oil and basil pesto sauce. This creation was influenced by Mape’s trip to Italy to visit a childhood friend.

Vote daily

The winner of the showdown will receive a $10,000 cash prize, a $500 Panera Bread gift card, "Bagels for a Year" certificate and the honor of having their sandwich added to Panera’s baker-café menu nationwide in 2013.

The winner is determined by a public vote, so vote daily through this Sunday, Nov. 11. Currently, Mapes’s panini is in fourth place so every vote counts!
