Betty Montgomery was nominated by Sheela Backen in Facilities Management for her above-and-beyond working style and smoothly overseeing a handful of custodial teams.
Betty has been at CSU for 30 years, all of them spent in Facilities Custodial. She came to Fort Collins from Greely and began working at CSU back in the 70s working in the Foothills Campus. On joining CSU, she became the first married woman with children hired as a custodian in Facilities. With her first promotion, she experienced another first: She was the first woman lead custodian in the history of Facilities.
Over the years, she worked her way up to her current position, Custodial Supervisor IV, where she manages five custodial teams around campus.
“Betty works very well with her teams and customers to keep things running smoothly,” Sheela says.
Sheela adds that Betty goes above and beyond by helping to run the main custodial office when their administrative assistant is out of the office. She will also stay as late as it takes to handle any problems that arise. This type of above-and-beyond attitude is what keeps the custodial office running so smoothly.
Betty enjoys tent camping and traveling. One of her favorite spots is in Washington state, the area near Long Beach and Vancouver. Some day she would like to travel along the eastern coast near Maine.
Betty plans to retire this year, and even so, she wanted fellow employees to know that, “This is a really great place to work!”
During an interview, Betty’s selfless attitude was clear as she commented that she was excited for her fellow employees to have the opportunity to move up in the department as a result of her retirement.
