The Leave it Behind Program gives students the opportunity to leave behind their unwanted items such as clothing, shoes, school supplies, furniture, household goods, and non-perishable food items at the end of the academic year.
The items collected are sold to the community well below market value and all proceeds go toward funding the Eco Leader student positions in the Residence Halls.
In 2013, 17.5 tons of material were donated as a part of Leave it Behind, and an increase of 1.5 tons from 2012.
Collection for Leave it Behind will take place through May 16th. Each Residence Hall, the International House, and on-campus apartments have a donation drop off location in the lobby for students living on campus.
For the first time ever students living in apartments off-campus can donate their materials to directly to Surplus, located at the corner of Lake Street and the Mason railroad tracks during normal business hours.
The community sale will take place 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. June 21 and 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. June 22. Lake Street will be closed during the day of the sale. The Umami, Common Link, and Nomad food trucks also will be on site during the sale.
Volunteer times are available between May 15 and June 20 to help set up and sort donated materials. Volunteers can also help during the community sale. If you are interested in volunteering, please visit our registration site to view available volunteer shifts. All volunteers will receive a $5 coupon (per every two hours worked) to be used at the community sale.
