Students abroad share information on disaster

March 9, 2011

Their involvement exemplifies the land grant mission of CSU and a philosophy of extending a helping hand.

Students using blogs to share

Liza Poet and Shelby Rundell, students in CSU's Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics,  studying abroad this semester at Lincoln University in Christchurch, New Zealand, have been caught up in the aftermath of the earthquake that struck the island nation's second-largest city.

The 6.3-magnitude quake hit Feb. 22, sparking a massive search-and-rescue effort; the death toll is expected to rise to more than 200. Emergency assistance efforts remain under way, and officials are concerned about the ability of historic structures to survive.

Both are safe as the disaster has unfolded, but have stepped up with a helping hand - and have used their blogs to share information about the aftermath of the devastating earthquake.
