Working at CSU

Avoid using CSU-issued cell phones to text charitable donations

January 19, 2010

Reimbursement required

Colorado State University employees who are considering making donations to charities via text messages from their CSU cell phones should be aware that they must fully reimburse the university for any donations billed to their departmental cell phone plan.

Overhead changes of 14 percent

Administrative overhead charges of 14 percent may be added to amount of any donations made by text messaging from CSU cell phones, even for employees who opt-in for personal use of their CSU-issued cell phones.

Other avenues available

While CSU Telecommunications encourages the university community to donate to charitable causes of their choosing, it recommends that all donations be made through avenues other than text messages from university cell phones.

For example, donations to the Red Cross for aid to Haiti can be made at www.redcross.org or by calling 1-800-REDCROSS. As always, extreme care should be used when providing credit card information on websites.
