International House construction project to break ground in early January

January 7, 2010

Ground will break the first week of January on a 2,200 square-foot expansion of International House, a Colorado State University apartment complex which houses about 200 students.

Lounge, study area, and recreation space

The expansion will include a large multi-purpose room with lounge and study space as well as recreational activities like pool, foosball and ping pong. New programming space will feature:

  • a fireplace
  • wireless Internet access
  • future plans include adding large screen televisions and projection equipment for events

The expansion project is expected to be complete the summer of 2010 and will provide additional space for events hosted at International House, including the popular Friday Afternoon Club, which Apartment Life co-hosts with the Office of International Programs and the Fort Collins International Center, a community volunteer organization.

Flexible accommodations for small and large events

The weekly event brings together students from the United States and around the world. International House also hosts numerous academic and cultural events including study groups, outdoor barbeques and weekly soup nights for residents. The new space has been designed to be flexible to accommodate groups from 20 to more than 200 for larger events.

The total cost of the expansion project is estimated at $340,000. A private donor has made a substantial pledge of funds for the expansion project and the university has followed with a commitment for the remainder of the project. Additional donations are being sought to help furnish and enhance the new space.
