The "Orange Out" rivalry game between the University of Colorado and CSU men's club hockey teams is set for 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31 at the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland.
Ken Fikis, who coached for CU you for several years before taking over at CSU, says it’s just another game for him, but his team has been looking forward to a big rivalry game.
“We’ve been on the road for seven games,” Fikis said. “I think we’re ready for this game even though we’ve had some adversity in the past, but I think they’re excited to play a home game for a change.”
The team has split two previous games against CU this season, but currently sits ahead of the Buffs in the Western Collegiate Hockey League Division standings. The Rams, who beat the Buffs in last year’s Rocky Mountain Faceoff, are in their first year playing Division I -- the highest level of collegiate club hockey.
The CSU Alumni Association is hosting a mixer preceding the game in the Bud Center’s Bullhorn Lounge. CSU alumni, fans, parents and students are invited to the event, which begins at 6 p.m. and ends when the game begins. Light appetizers and a cash bar will also be provided.
The mixer is free, but participants are required to RSVP. Follow this link to register: https://advancing.colostate.edu/EVENTS/2014FACEOFF
Proceeds from ticket sales will benefit Northern Colorado Youth Hockey (NCYH), the Colorado Eagles Foundation and CSU Hockey. Ticket prices range from $13 to $21 depending on the section. Children ages 2-12 and CSU students who present an ID at the box office get a $3 discount on tickets.
Child and student discounts are not available for tickets in premium seating sections. Add $5 to all ticket prices the day of the game. Tickets can be purchased online or at the door.
