Ask Cam

Tennis for one and all

November 15, 2010

Question:

Hi, Cam! I was hoping you could tell me about the tennis courts that are near the Veterinary Teaching Hospital. They are so far from the Student Rec Center and College Avenue Gym. Do students use the courts?

Cam's answer:

The Tennis Complex is a great, new place for racquet sports, love. It’s located south of the main Colorado State campus north of Drake Street on Research Boulevard.

Judy Muenchow, executive director of Campus Recreation, tells me, “It’s a short bike ride from the center of campus!” Or an even nicer walk, in my opinion.

Judy also says that, when the courts aren’t scheduled for an event or CSU’s varsity tennis team practice, they’re available for use by the public.

The facility opened for the 2010-11 season, in time for the tennis team  to play their hearts out. The $2 million facility features 12 courts, eight of which are lighted for night play. The facility also has a 25-foot-wide viewing area, which spans the length of the complex and offers spectator seating for 150 people. Each court is individually enclosed with separate access, while a pavilion offers both men’s and women’s restrooms as well as a team room and storage area.

Judy adds that the project was built as part of the Student Recreation Center bond project and thus was funded by student activity-fee dollars.

The Tennis Complex is closed for the winter but will be available again in March 2011. Announcements on the Campus Recreation website will let students know when the courts are back in session this spring.
