RamCT workshops Aug. 17-21

RamCT offers course tools for online course development and easy content management for faculty. If you need to post grades or privide information to students, RamCT is the program to handle these kinds of tasks.

The upcoming RamCT workshops require pre-registration but are free of charge to all CSU faculty, staff, and graduate students. Please note that you must have an active CSU electronic identity (eID) before you may register. 

RamCT – Getting Started
Monday, Aug. 17
10-11:30 a.m.

Instructor: Kevin Nolan, ACNS

Location: C143 Clark Building

Description: In this hands on workshop you will learn how the RamCT online course management system at CSU is organized to serve instructors and students. You will learn how to request a RamCT section using ARIESweb and how to prepare your computer to work properly with RamCT. You will customize your My RamCT page and explore the tools that are available to instructors and designers. You will learn how to add TA’s and other designers to your RamCT section and how to make a backup of your RamCT section.

RamCT – Organizing, Adding and Presenting Content
Tuesday, Aug. 18

Description:
In this hands on workshop you will learn how to organize and create a file structure for your RamCT section, learn about recommended file types and how to upload content files to the RamCT File Manager. You will also learn to use folders to present content to your students in a logical manner, how to create links to the files you have added to RamCT and how to link to other RamCT tools.

RamCT: Communication Tools

Description: Creating a sense of community is the key to successfully teaching students online. RamCT has a number of communication tools that can help achieve this result. We will focus on learning to use the Email, Chat and Discussion tools. You will use the Email tool to selectively send and receive messages. The Chat tool provides a way to interact with students who are online with you at the same time. With the Discussion tool you can create and grade topics, create blogs and organize student journals. Using these tools allows you to add an interactive dimension to your RamCT section.

RamCT: Gradebook
Wednesday, Aug. 19

Location: C143 Clark Building

Description: In this hands on workshop, you will learn to use the different tools built in to the grade book. You will create and organize grade book columns, enter student grades and use a calculated column to create a grade average. You will also learn how to export a copy of your grade book to Microsoft Excel, make grade changes and then import those changes back in to RamCT. You will also learn how final grades can be imported from the RamCT grade book to the ARIES student information system.

RamCT: SafeAssign
Thursday, Aug. 20
2-3 p.m.

Location: 202 Weber

Description: Learning to Cite/Reducing Plagiarism.  In this demonstration users will become familiar with SafeAssign, a tool now included in RamCT, that can identify matching content between submitted papers and existing works. SafeAssign can help students identify sources in their paper that need to be cited properly. The tool can also be used as a means to identify potential plagiarized material. Come learn how to set up SafeAssign in your RamCT section, how students can submit papers via SafeAssign and how to interpret a SafeAssign matching content report.

RamCT: Creating and Managing Assessments
Friday, Aug. 21

Location: C143 Clark Building

Description: The RamCT Assessment tool is used to create quizzes, surveys, and self tests. Instructors will learn how to create and organize a Question Database with different types of questions which can include multiple choice, true/false, matching, short answer etc. You will then create an assessment based on the questions you have created.

Participants will learn how to control student access to assessments, how to use the Assessment Manager to monitor and grade student submissions and how to automatically have assessment grades entered into the RamCT grade book.
