Adult Learner and Veteran Services scholarships

It is scholarship season for Adult Learner and Veteran Services (ALVS) office scholarships specifically for all adult learners, student parents and student veterans.

Each scholarship requires different supporting documentation and completed essay questions. More information and all applications are on the ALVS website.

Deb Peterson Outstanding Adult Student of the Year Award

This annual award is based on a nomination, not application, format.

The award recognizes a student who has, or is currently undergoing, an extra-ordinary amount of hardship (physical, psycho-social, etc.) and yet, maintains a positive attitude and an unwavering spirit in the pursuit of their undergraduate or graduate degree. One recipient is selected per year.
Eligible students meet the following criteria:

  • Be 23 years of age or older
  • Be currently enrolled full time at CSU as an under-graduate or graduate student
  • Have experienced unusual hardship in the course of completing their degree

Dream Scholarship for Single Parent Students

The Dream Scholarship for Student Parents was established by Diane Ellsworth, CSU alum and former employee. Eligible students meet the following criteria:

  • Undergraduate, full-time student enrolled in 12 or more credits;
  • Minimum CSU accumulative GPA of 2.0;
  • Preference will be given to single parents with sole custody.

Pamela Zimdahl Scholarship for Single Parent Students

The Pamela Zimdahl Scholarship was created to honor Pam’s extreme efforts as a single parent devoting herself to raising her sons and starting a new career. Eligible students meet the following criteria:

  • Be the head of household and a single parent
  • Be a full time undergraduate student pursuing any major in any college
  • Be a resident of Colorado 
  • Demonstrate financial need as established by the Office of Student Financial Services of CSU
  • Maintain an overall 3.0 GPA

Don Banks Endowment for Veterans Scholarship

The Donald D. Banks Scholarship for Military Students to honor Don Banks, a CSU alum and Navy Veteran who served during the Korea War. Eligible students meet the following criteria:

  • Be enrolled as a student at Colorado State
  • Demonstrate financial need as established by the Office of Student Financial Services
  • Maintain an overall minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Have served in the military in a war zone and/or in combat as defined by the United States Military

David B. Greene Memorial Scholarship

The David B. Greene Scholarship for Air Force Veterans was established by the family of David Greene to honor his service and life. Eligible students meet the following criteria:

  • Be an undergraduate, full-time, student at Colorado State (enrolled in 12 credits minimum)
  • Be a sophomore, junior, or senior in good standing
  • Have a cumulative CSU GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • Have served in the U.S. Air Force

Veterans’ Scholarship

The CSU Veterans’ Scholarship is funded from proceeds generated from the ALVS Veterans’ Day 5K each fall during Veterans’ Week. Eligible students meet the following criteria:

  • Be enrolled as a student at Colorado State
  • Demonstrate financial need as established by the Office of Student Financial Services
  • Maintain a CSU cumulative GPA of 2.0 or above
  • Have a 30% or more disability rating as defined by the US Department of Veteran Affairs

The deadline to submit applications is 5 p.m. March 15, 2014. Applications are available online at www.alvs.colostate.edu
