Coach Mac adds 24 new football players

February 6, 2013

The 2013 Rams will get an infusion of new talent when a mixture of high school and junior college talent hits the field next fall.

CSU football coach Jim McElwain unveiled his second full recruiting class Wednesday, a group of 24 players he hopes will help the Rams in their quest to win a Mountain West championship.

The Class of 2013 includes 20 high school players and four junior college transfers. The class has been ranked as high as third in the 10-team Mountain West.

Players hail from 13 states

The group is led by five of the top players in Colorado. McElwain also added six California players, three from Texas and one each from Arizona, Illinois, Kentucky, Mississippi, Nebraska, Nevada, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon and Washington.

All of the junior college players and Austin Berk, a defensive lineman who graduated in December from Grand Junction High School, currently are enrolled at CSU and can participate in spring drills. Brett Jordan, a tight end from Houston, also enrolled in January after sitting out the fall semester. The rest of the signees will join the team when fall practice begins in August.
