Report of University evacuation drills and emergency training

The details of evacuation drills and emergency training exercises conducted on the Colorado State University campus in 2010 have been made available.

Safety and emergency exercises

Colorado State University regularly trains and conducts safety and emergency response exercises as part of its priority to keep campus safe.

The following evacuation drills and emergency training exercises were completed during the 2010 calendar year:

  • CSU Health Network in the Hartshorn Building completed four evacuation drills.
  • One evacuation drill each was conducted in the Statistics Building, Student Recreation Center, Pathology Building and the Molecular and Radiological Biosciences Building.
  • Evacuation drills for each of the University’s 11 residence halls were held, which included student participation in the drills. Also, evacuation drills were completed in the Housing and Dining Service’s warehouse, Housing Services Center, Palmer Center, Durrell Center and the Ram’s Horn.
  • On Wednesday, Dec. 1, the University hosted a day-long training exercise on the Foothills Campus, designed to review and practice procedures used by emergency responders when hazardous materials may be involved. Participating agencies were Colorado State University Police Department, Environmental Health Services, Poudre Fire Authority and EMS, the 8th Civil Support Team stationed out of Buckley Air Force Base, and CSU biosafety officers.
  • On Oct. 2 and October 16, an emergency exercise at Hughes Stadium simulated potential game-day situations. The exercise included CSU Athletics, CSUPD, Facilities, Environmental Health Services and off-campus agencies including Poudre Fire Authority, Larimer County Sheriff’s Office, Colorado State Patrol, Landmark security company, Fort Collins Police Services and the Civil Support Team out of Buckley Air Force base.
  • On Tuesday, Aug. 3, Poudre Fire Authority conducted an exercise at Edwards Hall that simulated getting people out of a second story residence hall room using a ladder and carrying an unconscious person out of the building to safety.
