Entries open for 2013 Homecoming 5K

Get your Homecoming Saturday off to a healthy, fun-filled start by participating in the 33rd annual Homecoming 5K on the historic CSU Oval.

Each year more than 1,500 runners and walkers participate in the Homecoming 5K.The Homecoming 5K, which began in 1981 with just 30 runners, has evolved into one of the largest and most popular races in Northern Colorado with more than 1,500 entrants. Runners and walkers of all ages get the chance to tour campus as the flat course winds its way past Morgan Library, athletics facilities, residence halls and classrooms before concluding where it began on the beautiful Oval.

The 2013 race is set for 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12. A Kids Fun Run, led by CAM the Ram, follows at 9 a.m.

Benefits research

Proceeds from the race benefit the Heart Disease Prevention Program of the Human Performance Clinical/Research Lab. This program, sponsored by CSU’s Department of Health and Exercise Science, provides screenings for all the risk factors for heart disease. This screening includes personal and family history, a maximal treadmill test, an examination by a physician, blood lipid analysis, body composition assessment, and much more.

You can register online or in person at the Department of Health and Exercise Science main office, Room220 Moby B Complex, until 2 p.m. Oct. 11. You can also register in person at Altitude Running, 150 E. Harmony Road, Unit 2C, or Runners Roost, 2720 Council Tree Ave., Suite 112. Online registration is open until 4:45 p.m. Oct. 10. Race-day registration begins at 6:30 a.m. on the CSU Oval.

Early pre-registration (by 4 p.m. Oct. 4) is $20, late pre-registration (by 2 p.m. Oct. 11) is $25, and race-day registration is $30. Fee includes a uniquely designed long-sleeved T-shirt.
