Urgent care debuts at Veterinary Teaching Hospital

March 10, 2010

Colorado State University's Veterinary Teaching Hospital is launching a new service to provide fast appointments for pets who need urgent care but who are not facing an immediate and life-threatening emergency. The service will compliment the already existing emergency services, available 24 hours a day, seven days a week while also providing students with better opportunities for hands-on veterinary experience.

Urgent care is now available 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital.

Fast medical attention for pets

The new service is designed to help pet owners get fast medical attention to their pet if they’re concerned about a condition or behavior but can’t get into a regular veterinary appointment or don’t feel that the situation merits a trip to an animal emergency room service.

The service is open to same-day appointments or walk-in traffic between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. Monday through Friday. An appointment can be made by calling (970) 297-5000.

Veterinary students benefit

“We are pleased to be able to offer an option that can serve the community on an urgent basis,” said Dean Hendrickson, director of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital.

“This service helps pet owners but also helps provide our veterinary students with great basic practice experience.”

Referral not necessary

While a referral from a community veterinarian is not necessary to access the service, CSU veterinarians will work with community veterinarians who send clients to the service if they are unable to see the client immediately.

Under current critical care service

The urgent care service at CSU will be under the supervision of the teaching hospital’s current critical care service.

Colorado State University’s Veterinary Teaching Hospital is part of the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences.
