CSUPD seeking suspect in campus thefts

Colorado State University Police Department is asking for help in identifying a suspect in several thefts.

Update 4 p.m., Monday, Sept. 11

On the evening of Sept. 10, Colorado State University Police arrested a suspect, David Gutzke, for multiple thefts on campus. Gutzke has been charged with one count each of felony 2nd degree burglary, felony criminal impersonation and felony identity theft, and two misdemeanor counts of theft. Gutzke is not affiliated with the university.

The charges are merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty.

Since the start of classes, there has been an increase of thefts on campus, mainly from unlocked and unattended offices and laboratories.

CSUPD is releasing these of the person they believe may be responsible for a number of these thefts. The suspect is described as a white male with blond hair, usually in a braid. He carries a large tan backpack. He may be using Transfort to get around.  To view the images of the suspect, visit the university's safety site.

CSUPD encourages everyone to:

  • Safeguard personal items and do not leave valuable items unattended.
  • Lock your doors when you are not in your rooms, homes, offices or laboratories.
  • Report suspicious activity or people to CSUPD at 911 or (970) 491-6425.
