Steve was nominated by members of the staff in the Departments of Central Receiving for an Everyday Hero Award.

Steve has been working in his present position for 10 years and has been at CSU for almost 12 years. Growing up in the Denver area and having worked at Regis University, Steve applied at CSU because he loves the area and the college community.

An 'open-door policy'

Members of the staff at Central Receiving nominated Steve for an Everyday Hero Award because of his dedication, job performance and his excellent interactions with fellow employees. Steve’s recent efforts and initiative starting the day after the High Park Fire began were described as follows: “Steve has been working diligently helping the American Red Cross and the High Park Fire Donation Center located in the Foothills Mall. Through the Departments of Central Receiving, he has loaned the center a large volume of supplies, tables, computers, refrigerators and many other items. He has coordinated through the American Red Cross and the University to have Surplus Property serve as a designated Donation Center drop off location. As large volumes of donated items are received, his departments transport them to the Donation Center.” Steve’s staff members continue by describing his supervisory style, “He takes pride in his department, his employees, promotes teamwork, and always acknowledges a job well done. The expression ‘open door policy’ is so true in this department. Steve always takes the time to listen to problems, concerns, and suggestions.”

Steve is very involved at CSU and the community as a member of the National Association College and University Mailing Services, Postal Customer Council, Association of Rocky Mountain College and University Mailing Services and University Material Managers.

'Doing what he loves'

When Steve is not working he enjoys photography, hiking, camping, fly fishing, ATVing and hunting elk with his nephew. His plans for the future are to continue going through each day feeling good about what he is accomplishing and maintain happiness and health in work and life. When asked what he wanted fellow employees to know about himself, Steve states “It is a privilege to work with my fellow employees and to be part of the CSU community.” When Steve was asked what he thought about being nominated for the Everyday Hero Award, he said he is always volunteering and enjoys his work so it was a surprise because he is just doing what he loves. “It is an honor to be chosen for this award and I proudly accept it on behalf of all the staff at Central Receiving that aided in these efforts and thank the CSU Administration for their support.”
