Jazz Classics Duke Ellington Concert Oct. 5

The Tuesday, Oct. 5 concert by Jazz Ensemble I and II will showcase classics written by the iconic bandleader, Duke Ellington. Ellington's band was comprised of individuals who were considered the best in jazz in their own right -- he composed music specifically for the style and skills of those individuals. Audiences will be treated to thrilling performances of these big band numbers on Tuesday, 7:30 p.m., Oct. 5.

Duke Ellington (1943). CSU's Jazz ensembles will play the music of the famous bandleader in an Oct. 5 concert. Ellington wrote his first composition, Soda Fountain Rag, when he was fifteen-years-old and working as a soda jerk.

Fans of classic big band music must not miss this joyful and swinging annual concert. Jazz Ensemble I, under the direction of Peter Sommer, plays a program highlighting the music of one of America’s greatest composers and big band leaders, Duke Ellington.

The concert also features Jazz Ensemble II, under the direction of Wil Swindler
