Contemporary music series begins tonight at UCA

February 6, 2013

A generous donation from the Fort Collins-based Bohemian Foundation helped establish the five-concert series at CSU.

SHEL, a Fort Collins-based band featuring four talented sisters. The Contemporary Artist Music Series, sponsored by CSU and the Fort Collins-based Bohemian Foundation, begins at 8 tonight when SHEL takes the stage in Griffin Concert Hall at the University Center for the Arts.

The new series will feature five area bands or performers, each with a tie to CSU.

“The Bohemian Contemporary Artist Series was set up to expose our students to different models of success in the music world, to celebrate CSU alumni who have had success in the contemporary music industry, and to help bridge the gap between classical and contemporary music for audience members,” said Todd Queen, chair of CSU’s Department of Music, Theatre and Dance. “The opportunity to hear contemporary music in traditional classical performance venues will be fascinating.”

SHEL brings unique lineup, sound

SHEL is an all-sisters band based in Fort Collins. They play a variety of contemporary music that has hints of folk, rock, Celtic, classical and other influences. The group, which includes CSU alum Hannah Holbrook on keyboards, performed this summer during CSU’s Lagoon Concert Series and is highly regarded locally and nationally.

Tickets are $7 for CSU students, $1 for youth (under 17) and $12 for the public. Tickets are available at the UCA ticket office in the Griffin Lobby, by phone at (970) 491-2787, or online at www.CSUArtsTickets.com. Advance purchase is recommended to avoid at-the-door fees.
