April 14, 2011

The two top-10 teams face-off for the eighth year of the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse Showdown, bringing the tradition back to Invesco Field. Earning the reputation as Colorado’s best lacrosse team is on the line as the Colorado State Rams and the Colorado Buffaloes head into this game.

The game on Saturday, April 16 begins at 6 p.m., following a game between NCAA teams DU and Ohio State at 3 p.m.

Rams ranked No. 2 going in

The Rams are the traditional winners of this competition, having won last year and the first five years running. The Rams head into the game ranked No. 2 and the Buffs at No. 8, but don’t think they are getting cocky.

“I think we are in a good place as a team right now, but the fact is that records and rankings don't matter in a rivalry game like this,” Rams head Coach Alex Smith said. “We are really looking forward to the challenge.”

Impressive 13-1 record for season

The Buffs are coming into the Showdown after an impressive 18-1 win over Texas Tech and a 9-4 record this season. The Rams just defeated Chapman 11-9 on Monday and are carrying a 13-1 record for the season. This game is set to be a tough one.
