Roy Meek

Roy L. Meek, 79, of Huntsville, Alabama, passed away Thursday, September 29.

From 1967 to 1981 Meek was a professor of Political Science at Colorado State University.  He also served as associate dean of the College of Liberal Arts and faculty representative on the governing board.

From 1981 to his death, Professor Meek was at the University of Alabama, Huntsville, where he held the positions of Political Science department chairman, dean of the College of Liberal Arts, Political Science professor and professor emeritus.

Meek was a veteran of the United States Navy. He earned his Bachelor’s degree at the University of Oklahoma and Ph.D. at the University of Oregon.  Professor Meek’s academic specialty was constitutional law and civil rights and liberties. His demanding intellectual rigor and style left indelible impressions on scores of students and on many colleagues and fellow university administrators as well.

Roy Meek’s survivors include daughters Linda Ann Meek of Huntsville, Sandra Lea Meek of Rome, Georgia, and grandchildren Patrick Meek Goodwin and Kathleen Meek Goodwin. A graveside service was held Saturday, October 1, at Maple Hill Cemetery in Huntsville, Alabama.
